History of FABC
With a passion and zeal for the lost and hurting world, First African Baptist Church came into being on the 6th of October 1985. A group of African Students from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary started the church to meet the spiritual needs of Africans in the Dallas/Fort Worth community. The group comprised of Dr. Solomon Ademola Ishola, Pastor Johnson Omoni, Rev. Michael Oyedokun, and Rev. Akinleye.
In 1986, the group was adopted as a Mission of Gambrell Street Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. Charles Page, then Senior Pastor, and Rev. Allen. The Church facilitated the acceptance of the mission as a member of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. As a Mission of Gambrell Street Baptist Church, the group was also accepted as a member of Tarrant Baptist Association in June, 1986.
Members came from all over the DFW Metroplex as far as plano, and Garland. Some other missions were birthed from this church, to alleviate the hardship on those who traveled long distances to Fort Worth. This regeneration spread to Houston, Nashville, and today, there are more than 300 African Churches of all denominations in the United States.
